Paddleathon - Surfers making a difference
Brett Davis Christian Surfers International Director leads the way on the 10th annual Paddle-a-thon raising money for 5 children to put them through school.
"Back in 2000 Mark Groves first came up with the idea to put on a paddle fund-raiser to cover the local CS group insurance, as well as sponsor a child. As the leadership of the group talked it out they decided to aim big - the sponsorship of 5 kids through Compassion Australia for not just 12 months, but 10 years. And now on Sunday May
16, 2010 we've seen the fruition of that dream and the reality of providing food, education and housing for 5 impoverished children for 10 years running. Over the course they've seen around 120 paddlers from as young as 12, and as old as 57 complete courses ranging from
15-30km."
